Omar was raised in a conservative Sunni family as a devout Muslim but has later on left Islam. Consequently, Omar had to leave his country due to the risks associated with his apostasy and his criticism of religion and has been granted asylum in Sweden.
Omar himself was once a part of honor culture and hence engaged himself in working against honor culture in Sweden by joining gapf, where he works as a project manager and lecturer.
Omar is also a strong advocate of freedom of thought and speech, and equal rights with focus on gender equality and LGBT rights. Key issues for him include how religious and cultural values affect honor culture and how relativism stands in the way of fighting it. In addition, issues related to like integration and the necessity to promote and protect ground values which a free and open society should stand for.
